Sermon – “What a Family!”- Garner Ted Armstrong

In this sermon Garner Ted Armstrong explains the complex simplicity of God’s plan for mankind – what salvation really means, what the Bible not just implies but plainly says – if only those who deny God’s purpose would take off the blinkers and abandon their “tradition”.

When the Bible says that Christ is the first of the first fruits what does it mean. When Paul states plainly that Christ is “the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29) what does he mean. “Brethren” is merely the old English for “brothers”, (and sisters for that matter). Where do you find “brothers”? In families of course.

In many places in the New Testament we see mention of “the children of God”. Is that just religious fluff or is it real. For example Romans 8: 14-16

14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Read the whole of Romans 8.

Christ also spoke of the children of God. He said they were born of the resurrection.

Luke 20:35-36 (read the whole passage)

35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
