Sermon – “Truth Has Fallen in the Street” – Garner Ted Armstrong Sermon, November 18, 2000

Here is a sermon with a backdrop of the disputed Al Gore / George Bush Presidential election result, the “hanging chads”, the multiple voting, the lost votes, the miraculously appearing votes on recounts. Similar electoral shenanigans seem to infect elections in most western countries – Australia’s September 2013 Federal election and a few recent State elections included.

Who can you believe? Politicians make promises before an election and right on cue break them afterward.

Isaiah was inspired to write of conditions that would be extant in this time (and in previous times as well).

Isaiah 59:13-15 (But read the whole chapter)
“13In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. 14And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. 15Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.”

It is hard to find anyone (especially in politics) who will tell the truth. And the state of western nations, Europe, the United States, Britain and Australia point to their being no judgement – no common sense, no proper equity, no sound thinking. The Biblical philosophical content of this sermon 14 years later might have been preached yesterday for it’s accurate depiction of the current woes of the West.
