This sermon was delivered in the midst of the invasion of Iraq by a coalition of forces consisting principally the UNited States and Great Britain, with small contributions from Australia and some other countries. Germany and France vehemently opposed the invasion. Why? That is one of the issues covered in this address, along with the general rising European opposition to the US and Britain at the time. Was it all about oil? But on whose part? well, looking back now the history is clearer. But this sermon provided some insights as to what was going on then – and what is still going on now. What new crisis might put a further wedge between the US, the UK and their European “friends”?
