Sermon – “The Bible and the Newspaper” – Garner Ted Armstrong Sermon, February 24, 2001

The first few minutes of this sermon are worth the cost of watching and very amusing – quoting an article from the Wall Street Journal, before opening into a theme raised by the article – the continued commentary by GTA on world news and the news headlines relationship to Bible prophecy as the world teeters towards the end of the age. Of course it is not only the odd press reporter who took exception to Mr. Armstrong continually expounding Bible prophecy in relation to current events. Some church leaders, Church of God leaders even who did not like that approach – despite Christ admonishing His followers to “watch” always.

Matt. 24:42-44
“42Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh”.

“Watching” not intended as a religious exercise but rather a practical appreciation of the times in which we live as the rest of Matthew 24 makes plain.
