Sermon – “Don’t Trust Dates” – Garner Ted Armstrong Sermon, January 6, 2001

Most, if not all, churches that look to the return of Jesus Christ to Planet Earth at some point get caught up predicting the year, the month and even the day of His return. Such failed predictions, and so far they have all failed, are embarrassing to the individual or organisation that made the prediction and inevitably erode credibility among the poor folk who believed it.

In this sermon Mr. Armstrong provides a case study based upon his own experience with the now defunct Worldwide Church of God and offers prudent advice to any who would assay even now to make predictions of the end of the age and the return of Jesus Christ and any who would be swayed by them. There can be little doubt we are in the time of the end spoken of by Jesus Christ (Matt. 24 and elsewhere) but predicting the year, the month or the day of various prophesied events is as dangerous and pointless now as it was 50 years ago when – nothing happened. The message is ‘don’t trust dates”. Trust the Bible and watch – the news, world events, the Middle East, Europe – always.
