Stephen, the Apostle Paul – all of the twelve – showed courage and unswerving faith when confronted with death. Jesus Christ Himself approached death with perhaps the greatest courage. Why such courage?
As Garner Ted Armstrong remarks in this sermon a man will not willingly die for something he knows to be false. But these all died in great faith, with the sure knowledge that the reward of salvation awaits them. In Christ’s case He arose the third day and ascended to Heaven to be received of His Father. The others mentioned, along with countless others since, who over the centuries have died “in Christ”, await their resurrection to eternal life as a spirit being in God’s Kingdom. But they died knowing that the promise was sure. That knowledge gave them courage.
