Sermon – “As the Sun in His Strength” – by Garner Ted Armstrong

For centuries Christians and others have thought that conditions extant in their time heralded the Time of the End, the time spoken of by Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, the writers the New Testament and Christ Himself. In the decade before WWII many thought that the economic, political and social conditions extant at that time meant the end was near. However, over looked by all of those people over all of those many centuries was a clear prophecy of Jesus Christ found in Matt. 24, verse 22 “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved (alive) but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened”

The facts are the conditions whereby mankind could, in the absence of outside intervention to stop it, wipe itself off the face of the earth, only came about after WWII and the multiplying nuclear weapons, biological and chemical weapons on a massive scale. Are we now living in those times that the disciples thought they lived in? Applying the Word of God you would have to think yes – looking at world conditions right now. Economic and political conditions have not been this bad probably since WWII – an American debt crisis beyond reason and solving, a European debt crisis that is deferred every few weeks with new loan money printed and the can kicked down the road, a Middle East crisis ongoing with multiple players, Iran, Syria, the various terror organisations surrounding Israel. That powder keg could go off any time and of course Jerusalem is at the very heart and centre of Bible prophecy. Christ is to stand in that day on the Mount of Olives.

With all of that Garner Ted Armstrong back in 1997 addressed these issues and more.
